Pressure showed us the mind in a state of compression, revealing what breaks, what bends, and what becomes unexpectedly clear when life demands more than our mental bandwidth can hold. But pressure is only one side of the story. Even in calm moments, when there is no threat, no urgency, no crisis, the mind is still being shaped by forces we rarely notice. If pressure distorts our thinking from the outside, cognitive biases distort it from within. They operate quietly, automatically, beneath awareness, guiding our interpretations long before we believe we are “thinking.”
